Most of us include /usr/cs/contrib/bin/ or some such public-writeable directory in our path, and all but the godly amongst us make typing mistakes. Combined, these two venial factors can lead to a big security risk. The aim of this page and all the programs behind it is to educate about the risk, not to lampoon those who have unwittingly been part of this survey. My apologies if you have been included in the lists that will be generated by these requests.

December 13th 1996 marks the day since when these statistics have been collected. Incidentally, this day was a Friday.

The programs that have been behind these statistics have raised some interesting ethical questions. For the moment, I do not have the time to put these up, but I will as soon as I can.
